New Topic!

The children have decided to find out about pets for their next topic. We will be looking at what makes a good pet, how we can look after them and what kind of pets you can have. If you have any photos of your family pet, please email them to: receptionclass@shireoak.leeds.sch.uk

Pattern

During week before half term, the children have been exploring and recreating their own patterns.

On the tree using pastels.

Jorge's repeating pattern tie.

Even using letters.

Charlotte counted in twos, making a number pattern.

Chinese New Year

As part of our topic of celebrations, we learnt about Chinese new year. The children were especially interested in the dragon dances. I brought in my very own dragon from home (a bearded dragon).

This inspired Dylan to make his very own Chinese dragon.
"It doesn't need any wings, it doesn't fly."

We also listened to some music and the children made their own ribbons for the ribbon dancing.

The children also enjoyed tasting the noodles and prawn crackers.

The children collaborated to get the house clean for Chinese new year.

3D Shape

After looking at 2D shapes, we looked at 3D shapes. We found out about cubes, pyramids, cones, cuboids, cylinders and spheres.
The children investigated which shapes could roll and which ones couldn't.

A cylinder!

A cube!

The brick is a cylinder.

Kai made a house of shapes.
